Arsenal want to make a splash this summer.
Football Soccer – Montpellier v Monaco – French Ligue 1
Arsenal stunned AS Monaco last week by bidding £87 million to sign star striker Kylian Mbappe, L’Equipe reported.
The France international teenager scored 23 goals in all competitions last season and is Europe’s most coveted youngster.
AC Milan’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma holds the ball as his teammate Manuel Locatelli looks on.
The Gunners’ opening bid for Mbappe was not successful, and club legend Ian Wright says he would rather the club focus their efforts in another direction.
Wright says it is Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma who he believes the Gunners should prioritise.
Donnarumma like Mbappe is 18-years-old and has been called up by his country already.
The young goalkeeper’s future at Milan is in doubt as his contract expires next summer and he is yet to commit to a new deal.
Arsenal have Petr Cech as their number one but the veteran is now 35, and Donnarumma could fill the void in goal for the next decade if Arsenal splash out – but with many of Europe’s top clubs monitoring his situation, winning the race would not be easy.
