Ian Wright has stated that he ‘really likes’ watching Rodrigo play for Leeds United following their 3-0 win at Watford on Saturday, as he told Match of the Day.
If there were any worries about Leeds still possibly being in this Premier League relegation dogfight, then all of that will be forgotten about after that comprehensive win at Vicarage Road.
Jesse Marsch walked into a pressure cooker of an environment when he replaced the popular Marcelo Bielsa in the dugout over a month ago.
But, even though he suffered two defeats in his opening two matches, his side now haven’t lost since March 10th.
Rodrigo has three goals from his last four Premier League matches and he has been one of the most improved players under Marsch, as Wright thinks Leeds are now ‘enjoying’ their football under the American.
“Someone like Rodrigo, who I really like when you watch him play,” said Wright.
“He just plays off Daniel James. He is chasing this down really (Greenwood through ball for Rodrigo’s goal that wasn’t defended by Watford). From Watford, it was calamitous, which they have been doing all season.
“But he has three in four now – they look like they are enjoying their football. Solid at the back and he is letting them get on with it at the front.”
The powers that be deserve credit for the ruthless and emotional change they made in sacking Bielsa because it is working.
Marsch’s methods have transformed a previously struggling and morale-sapped Leeds side.
Whilst Kalvin Phillips has returned for the Yorkshire side, it needs to be remembered that most of their recent run has still been without their hard-hitting midfielder and Patrick Bamford.
Either way, not only does Marsch deserve credit, but so does Bielsa, who laid down the platform for these players to thrive in England’s top-flight.
