Ian Wright believes Rangers are coming for Celtic’s crown, even if it may take a couple of years.

BT Sport pundit Ian Wright looks on prior to the Emirates FA Cup Semi-Final match between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on April 23, 2017 in London, England.

Former Celtic striker Ian Wright has told SkySports he believes there is a chance Rangers beat his old side next month.

Rangers are unbeaten in all competitions to start the season under new boss Steven Gerrard, but face a big test when they take on Celtic away from home on September 2.

Rangers have had a horrific record against Celtic since winning promotion in 2016, and have not beaten their Old Firm rivals.

Wright has told SkySports that he believes Rangers have got their belief back, while Celtic’s own problems, the fallout from a poor transfer window and Champions League exit.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard in the dug out during the Pre-Season Friendly between Rangers and Bury at Ibrox Stadium on July 6, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Speaking to SkySports‘ The Debate on Thursday (10pm 23/8), Wright said “Celtic are the better team but with that little bit of disenchantment, dissention with Brendan Rodgers and the board it might be enough to upset them a little bit.

“I think that’s going to be a really big game, I’m really torn on that one. He, Steven (Gerrard) will have them pumped.

“Whatever happens they (Rangers) feel like they are getting closer. They have had a torrid time last few years.

“Now with the way it’s going you can feel like they are on the way back. It might take them a couple of years, but they are coming.”

Gerrard’s Rangers are on a roll, and they will be looking forward to the clash with Celtic, but it could be a reality check for them.

A substantial loss would be a big setback for Rangers, potentially undoing their good work, and revitalising Celtic.

A win will validate everything Gerrard has done over the last couple of months, and leave Celtic asking themselves big questions.
