Arsenal legend Ian Wright couldn’t help but admire Tottenham Hotspur today.
In a week where Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a move away from North London, his Tottenham Hotspur players showed the Argentine just what he would be walking away from today.
Tottenham moved back to within six points of top-of-the-table Liverpool by smashing their Merseyside rivals Everton 6-2 at Goodison Park with a ruthless display which could – and perhaps should – make Pochettino think twice about quitting Spurs this summer.
The Argentine has been heavily linked with the Manchester United job following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, but this display offered further evidence that the Lilywhites – who coasted past Arsenal in midweek – are going places under the 47-year-old manager.
They were so impressive, in fact, that Ian Wright put his Arsenal loyalties to one side and couldn’t help but admit that he was ‘frightened’ by his old club’s North London rivals.
Son Heung-min scored Tottenham’s equaliser on 27 minutes after Theo Walcott opened the scoring, before finding the net again just after the hour mark to fire the visitors 5-2 ahead.
And Wright made it clear on Twitter that he was a big fan of the South Korean – even if his admiration for Son angered Arsenal fans.
It’s still a big ask for Tottenham to catch a Liverpool team who haven’t lost a Premier League game yet this season, but this victory was yet another example of the infinite potential that Pochettino has created at Spurs and although Old Trafford must be tempting, the temptation to carry on must be greater.
