Pundit Ian Wright is getting excited after hearing rumours that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen could be on his way to Arsenal in 2024.

Victor Osimhen is being linked with Arsenal and Ian Wright is giddy about the idea of him arriving in North London.

Arsenal beat Brentford 1-0 over the weekend with Kai Havertz scoring the only goal of the game.

Top of the league and boasting the Premier League’s best defence, Arsenal are looking good right now.

There is scope for improvement though and adding a top-level goalscorer could take Arsenal to another level…

Ian Wright reacts to Victor Osimhen rumours

One of the key names in the mix is Victor Osimhen, who is being linked with a move away from Napoli in 2024.

TEAMtalk report that Arsenal have put money aside for a big striker signing and Mikel Arteta would love to sign Osimhen.

London rivals Chelsea are keen too but Arsenal are now an option for Osimhen, who is expected to cost at least £120million.

Pundit Ian Wright has been speaking on his podcast, Wrighty’s House, and was asked about the Osimhen rumours.

Wright noted that he doesn’t like hearing this because he doesn’t want it to just be a rumour – he is hoping Arsenal are making serious moves to sign Osimhen.

Wright fears that Chelsea could win the race and kill off his excitement, but believes that Osimhen is exactly what Arsenal need up top.

The former Arsenal hero thinks that Arteta would ‘cause problems across Europe’ with Osimhen at his disposal and just doesn’t want to be let down if the move doesn’t come off.

“Whoa… can I be totally honest? I don’t like hearing this, because this is something that I was quietly just thinking in my mind, ‘you know something, I hope we’re doing something to make that move or do something in that vibe’, simply because I don’t want it to be a link like we’re linked, Chelsea are linked as well… I just want… I would love him to come!”

“The thing is, when you look at we’re doing now and, again, I go back to the defensive side of what we’re doing and I know how important it is. For me, if I had any kind of coaching ability, my teams would be built from defence and that’s where we are at the moment, we’re very, very difficult to score against. If you get the guy that can take the half-chance when you’re playing in those games where it’s very tight, they’re putting you under a lot of pressure, you’re creaking but you’re hanging in there but then you make a chance and bam, you score, bam, you score again – before you know it, you’re under immense pressure but you’re 2-0 up.”

“That is where that player comes into his own. That is what we need, that is the only thing we’re missing right now – the half-chance taker, who takes that chance when we’re under pressure. If we could get [Osimhen], we are causing problems across Europe,” he added.

Arsenal could change the game with Osimhen deal

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table right now but they could be even better.

The Gunners haven’t been at their absolute best in terms of attacking play this season and adding a lethal, world-class striker could change the game.

Osimhen fits that bill having hit 26 goals in 32 games last season, firing Napoli to the Serie A title.

The Nigerian is one of the truly elite strikers in world football right now and his relationship with Napoli has taken a hit this season.

If there is even a glimmer of hope in terms of Arsenal getting this deal done, then it’s one Edu and Arteta simply have to push for in 2024.

Osimhen could be the difference between a Premier League title and another second-place finish, so we can understand Wright’s excitement – and his fears of being let down if Osimhen goes elsewhere.
