Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier has held on to his England spot.

Pundit Ian Wright has told BBC Radio Five Live that he’s ‘quite pleased’ to see Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier given a chance to rebuild his confidence with England.
Trippier, 28, was England’s hero at the World Cup last summer, turning in a host of impressive displays whilst even scoring a stunning free kick against Croatia in the semi-finals.
The right back was even coined the ‘Bury Beckham’ off the back of his crossing and set pieces, with the Spurs star becoming an unlikely hero in Russia.
Having clearly established himself as Tottenham’s first-choice right back ahead of Serge Aurier, many were expecting Trippier to kick on again this season.
However, the former Burnley man has struggled throughout the campaign, failing to hit those heights again as his limitations have been magnified, especially of late.
He isn’t a dynamic attacker as he won’t hit the byline with any pace, and defensively he has been caught out on a number of occasions, whilst he even scored a comical own goal at Chelsea last month.

Yet still, Trippier was named in the latest England squad ahead of Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which has left many fans completely bemused.
However, pundit Wright believes it’s a great move, noting that he’s ‘quite pleased’ to see Trippier in the squad again, as it will give him confidence to recover from a disappointing run of form, with Gareth Southgate offering the arm around the right back that he needs right now.
“It’s not going great for Kieran Trippier at the moment,” said Wright. “I’m quite pleased that Gareth brought him in because he’s somebody that needs an arm around him at the minute. He got a lot of stick, especially in the North London derby, he wasn’t having a great game. Coming off the summer he had, I’m pleased Gareth has brought him in to give him that confidence,” he added.
