Ian Wright simply stated ‘wow’ after he was told by Daily Mirror journalist Darren Lewis that Leeds United could ‘aggressively’ push for Burnley’s Vincent Kompany as their next manager following the sacking of Jesse Marsch, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Premier League Productions (06/02/23 at 2:55 pm).

The Arsenal legend added that the people in the boardroom at Leeds have ‘itchy fingers’ after they pushed Marsch out of the Elland Road doors 24 hours after their defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Whilst the Whites performed well during that game, especially in the first half, it was the same old story for the team and the end result of zero points.

The bigger issue is that the Yorkshire outfit were beaten by another fellow relegation rival, and whilst Forest have brought in the whole footballing world during the past two transfer windows, on paper, Leeds have the better team.

Either way, after sacking Marcelo Bielsa last season, Marsch has now followed suit, with those in power now looking for a replacement ahead of their trip to Old Trafford on Wednesday night, as they sit above the drop zone on goal difference, but they have played a game less than Everton.

As the news was breaking, Ian Wright was reacting to the news, as well as the suggestion of 36-year-old Vincent Kompany taking charge.

“Then the people upstairs, they just get more and more itchy fingers,” said Wright. “You look at Leeds. There is something that just isn’t quite right.

“Are they not getting the luck here? Are they not getting the luck there? But, at the end of the day, they are still losing games. They have an owner who is very itchy when it gets into that sort of situation – these owners have to make a decision and they have to make it quickly. Leeds have just got back here. They are trying to establish themselves in the Premier League and it will be interesting what happens with them now.”

Daily Mirror Journalist, Darren Lewis stated “I have a feeling they will aggressively go for a Vincent Komany-type manager. If you were them. Why would you not? Burnley are in the Championship. Going great guns and Komany has gone there and had an instant impact. He has a philosophy and a vision. He’s a standout candidate right now. I think they throw money at him and try to get him.”

Wright simply responded by adding: “Wow.”

KOMPANY AT BURNLEY

It’s only a matter of time, but Burnley will be in the Premier League next season, and at the rate they are going, it could also be done in record-breaking fashion because they have only lost two games this season.

Whilst Leeds are a far bigger club than Burnley, some may question why Kompany would leave less than 12 months into the Clarets job, midway through the season and join a team in a relegation fight.

There is every chance both teams swap divisions in May.

When the final ball is kicked, perhaps Leeds could try for a Kompany then, but the four-time Premier League winner with Manchester City just doesn’t seem to be the type of character that would leave a club during the middle of the season.
