Ian Wright has expressed his delight on Twitter at Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips being called up to the England squad.

The former Arsenal and England international striker is pleased to see Phillips get international recognition.

As reported by BBC Sport, England head coach Gareth Southgate has included the Leeds star in his squad for next month’s Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark.

This is the first time that the 24-year-old has been called up to the Three Lions’ senior squad.

Wright is pleased to see Phillips get the recognition for his hard work and progress at Leeds over the years.

Deserved call-up

Phillips was one of the best midfielders in the Championship over the years and played an instrumental role in Leeds winning automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has improved and progressed a lot under Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa, and his call-up to the England squad is well deserved.

Phillips is a very good player who is capable of holding his own in the middle of the park, and he is set to be a success in the Premier League.
