Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured their spot in the Premier League for the first time since 2012.

BT Sport pundit Ian Wright looks on prior to the Emirates FA Cup Semi-Final match between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on April 23, 2017 in London, England.

Ian Wright has told The Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 16th April, that Wolverhampton Wanderers need to relax their expectations after returning to the Premier League.

Wolves director Laurie Dalrymple suggested that Wolves want to become one of the Premier League’s elite clubs this week.

But when asked whether he felt Wolves could break into the top six, Wright suggested that just consolidating in the Premier League should be the immediate aim, as they will struggle to break into the upper echelons of the league.

He said: “To get into the top six and sustain it against that kind of opposition… There’s ambition and then there’s ‘lets just ease into it man’.

“How they’ve blasted the Championship is impressive. But we can’t ignore the fact that they have Jorge Mendes who is helping you, you can make statements like that because you know he’s going to bring a calibre of player they who can help you kick on.”

Wolves’ promotion to the Premier League was confirmed last weekend, after Fulham failed to beat Brentford.

Wolves then went on to beat Birmingham City 2-0, to start the party celebrations off at Molineux.

Wolves have had a difficult time since dropping out of the top flight in 2012, and even dropped down to League One for a stage, but they are now back with big ambitions.

Nuno’s side still have three matches remaining this season, with their next outing coming against Bolton Wanderers at the weekend.
