Ian Wright has told The Sun that he is expecting Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday to end in a 2-2 draw, and has backed Harry Kane to shine against the Reds.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men go into the game off the back of their stunning performance against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, which saw them take one giant step towards the Champions League knockout stages as they drew 1-1.

They also go into the game off the back of their first Premier League win at Wembley, as they beat Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to a Christian Eriksen masterclass last weekend.

However, they are facing a Liverpool side who broke the record for the biggest away win for an English side in the history of the European Cup as they beat Maribor 7-0. But Wright has suggested that Spurs’ midweek result was actually more impressive, and suggested that Liverpool’s style of play will help Kane end his ‘wait’ for a goal – though he admitted that he is anticipating an exciting draw.

“Harry Kane has gone two games without a goal, an eternity for him at the moment, but he could find some decent space because of Liverpool’s pressing style,” he told The Sun when explaining why he is expecting a 2-2 draw.

“Both sides will have picked up some confidence from their Champions League performances, especially Spurs who I think were unlucky not to take all three points Bernebeu on Tuesday.

“I don’t like to sit on the fence but I can’t pick a winner between these two.”

Though Tottenham, and Kane in particular, have been scintillating in front of goal this term, and Liverpool have developed a reputation for being somewhat hapless defensively, both sides’ recent results hint that it may not be a high-scoring game.

Spurs have scored just twice in their last two games – though, one of those games was against Real Madrid – while Liverpool have kept two clean sheets in a row, so it will be interesting to see which side is able to take the momentum they picked up in midweek and use it at Wembley on Sunday.
