Everton secured a top 10 finish in Marco Silva’s first season in charge at Goodison Park.
BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright has stated that Everton can cause ‘a bit of a problem’ next season if the likes of Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes stay at the club.
Both players joined the club last summer from Barcelona, with left-back Digne penning a permanent contract, whilst midfielder Gomes signed a season-long loan deal.
On Sunday afternoon, the 2018/19 Premier League campaign came to an end with Marco Silva’s side recording a respectable 2-2 draw at Champions League finalists Tottenham.
Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (12/05/2019 at 11:40 pm), Wright shared his thoughts on how the Toffees can be a threat next season.
“They went through a spell where they lost their way a bit, but they got it going in the end,” Wright told Match of the Day. “They have got a lot of money to spend and I am sure they will do.
“Lucas Digne, people like that. Gomes, are they going to be able to keep him? If they can keep players like that then Everton are going to cause a bit of a problem next season.”
After a mixed start to life at Goodison Park, Silva has guided the club to a respectable top-eight finish and with it, he has improved their style of play.
Compared with the previous campaign, Everton are playing a more attack-minded game and with it, they have shown their defensive worth.
There have been moments this season where Silva has come under scrutiny, especially in January when they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Millwall, but his team bounced back and continued to grow.
Now the attention will be on next season and trying to bulk up the squad in the summer as they attempt to secure a European finish or potentially win a domestic trophy.
