Neco Williams is yet to play a Premier League minute for Liverpool this season, but he caught the eye for Wales last night.

Williams set up the winning goal in the 1-0 victory in Bulgaria for his namesake Jonny.

That cross, and his overall performance, impressed Ian Wright on ITV’s Nations League Highlights show.

Speaking at 12:35am, 15/10, Wright shared how impressed he was with the Liverpool defender, who made a crucial contribution to a vital win.

“Brilliant goal,” said Wright of the winner. “You see that cross… Neco Williams, he played really well.

“That ball, it makes your mind up in the way you’re going to finish that and I’m delighted for Jonny Williams.

“They had some chances, Wales, they played very well.”

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019

  4. Premier League

    2019/20

Williams had a better night than the man who keeps him out of the Liverpool team, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Englishman was an unused substitute as the Three Lions lost 1-0 at home to Denmark, where their cause was not helped by Harry Maguire’s first half red card.

From Jurgen Klopp’s point of view, that likely works quite well.

Alexander-Arnold has had a rest ahead of the Merseyside derby, and Williams got a game under his belt. He would have been unlikely to feature at Goodison Park anyway.

Williams has one of the best crossers in the game to learn from at club level and he showed what he is capable of for Ryan Giggs last night.
