Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright says he would prefer Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy over Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, with his unexpected rise a key factor, he told the Fletch and Sav show on BT Sport.

Vardy and Kane are without doubt England’s best strikers at present, eclipsing the form of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and, of course, injured Liverpool ace Daniel Sturridge.

The two strikers have 21 Premier League goals combined this season, a fantastic achievement.

But which of the two should be England’s number one striker? Steve McManaman and Michael Owen both back Kane, saying the Spurs ace has age on his side and generally leads the line better.

Wright, on the other hand, prefers Vardy and highlights how he has proven a lot of people wrong.

“I would go with Vardy simply because I’m a similar kind of player, and I would like to think that he can go on and do more [despite being 28],” Wright explained.

“I want him to go on and do more. I think he has proven a lot of people wrong.”

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Kane and Vardy both excel in a number of key attacking areas.

Leicester’s top scorer is undoubtedly more potent in front of goal, scoring and assisting more while also averaging more shots and key passes per Premier League fixture.

Kane, however, is integral to how Spurs play and he seemingly is more capable outside the box – averaging more take-ons, touches, accurate passes and ball recoveries per league match.

Combined, the two players could form a frightening partnership up front and it’s an option which England boss Roy Hodgson should seriously consider ahead of next summer’s European Championships.
