Ian Wright said on ITV (9:43pm, March 25, 2021) that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is unlucky not to be in the England squad.
The Arsenal legend made the comments following Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins’s goal for the Three Lions against San Marino on Thursday evening.
The Villa striker came on as a substitute to find the back of the net on his England debut.
The Three Lions won their opening 2022 World Cup qualifier 5-0 at Wembley Stadium in London on Thursday evening.
Watkins was included in the England squad ahead of Leeds striker Bamford, who has actually scored more goals than the Villa striker in the Premier League so far this season.
According to WhoScored, Watkins has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 28 Premier League games for the Villans so far this campaign.
Bamford has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 29 league matches for Leeds so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.
Wright said on ITV (9:43pm, March 25, 2021): “I mentioned Patrick Bamford there. Another one who is unlucky, but he has taken his chance tonight.”
Watkins must be over the moon at scoring against San Marino, and Bamford should use the Villa striker’s goal as motivation to do even better when club football resumes next weekend.
