Liverpool have been simply superb going forward this season, but their defensive displays continue to hamper their progress.

Commentator Ian Wright smiles prior to the Barclays Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers at Selhurst Park on March 14, 2015 in London, England.

Ian Wright shared his belief that the Reds need to sign a goalkeeper and another centre-half if they are to challenge for the Premier League title next season, when speaking to BBC Radio Five Live last night.

Liverpool currently sit in third position in the table, and despite some magnificent attacking displays, their defensive performances have proven to be detrimental to their hopes of making a sustained push for the title this season.

Jurgen Klopp, Manager of Liverpool looks on during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on October 22, 2017 in London, England.

Jürgen Klopp has already brought Virgil van Dijk to Anfield this month, for the small matter of £75 million, but it is evidently clear that Liverpool need further reinforcements in the defensive department.

Wright explained how Klopp should be looking to add a goalkeeper and another central defender to his ranks in the summer, when speaking to BBC Radio Five Live last night, if he is to guide his side to Premier League glory:

“If Liverpool can address the goalkeeper situation and sign another centre-half, they’ve got Naby Keita coming and add a couple more of that, they could be well up there challenging for the Premier League next season.”

Liverpool’s rollercoaster campaign continues with a trip to rock-bottom Swansea City on Monday night, and a win will be of paramount importance to their hopes of finishing inside the top four.

Qualification for the Champions League will be a necessity for Klopp’s side this season, if they are to attract players of the required calibre in the summer.
