Ian Wright believes that there is only one player on Everton’s injury list who could make a difference to Ronald Koeman’s side.

Ronald Koeman may perhaps consider pointing to Everton’s injury list as one of the reasons for the Toffees’ struggles this term, but Ian Wright has told The Sun that only one of their currently-sidelined players would make a difference to their fortunes.

Everton have endured a miserable start to the season. They currently languish in the bottom-half of the Premier League and have a huge uphill battle in front of them if they hope to qualify out of their Europa League group, having taken just one point from their opening three games in the competition.

Their latest result – a 2-1 defeat at home to Lyon on Thursday – saw the fans seemingly turn on Koeman in a way that suggested that the end of the Dutchman’s tenure may be nigh.

The owners have seemingly decided to keep faith with the former Southampton boss, and perhaps the extensive injury list may have played a part in that decision. But Wright believes that Seamus Coleman is the one player from the entire list who could significantly improve their fortunes.

“Ronald Koeman is really struggling at the moment, with his big money signings not clicking yet,” he told The Sun.

“Some people are pointing to their injury list, which includes the likes of Ross Barkley, Aaron Lennon, Yannick Bolasie and now Morgan Schneiderlin but for me the only absentee who could make a difference is Seamus Coleman.”

While Wright may genuinely believe that the other players named would not improve the fortunes, it could perhaps be suggested that the reason that he does not believe that the likes of Barkley and Bolasie would improve the team’s results is not so much down to them, but rather, down to what the Everton squad lacks.

Much has been made of their lack of fire power up front, and Wright may perhaps feel that Barkley, Bolasie and Lennon would not change things dramatically as they would be as redundant as the current attacking players have been with no striker in front of them to prove the focal point.
