Arsenal legend Ian Wright has named what he thinks is the club’s best ever XI under Arsene Wenger, via the Daily Star.

Wenger celebrated 20 years in charge of the club this week, making him the second longest-serving manager in Premier League history.

In that time he has made 116 signings in total as he has consistently adapted his squads over the years.

He has worked with a number of legendary players in that time, including the likes of Thierry Henry, Denis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and even Wright himself, to name but a few.

His greatest team arguably came in 2003/04. Dubbed the Invincibles, they went an entire season unbeaten on their way to winning the title.

Unsurprisingly, several stars from that team make it into Wright’s selection for the Daily Star.

In goal, he elects to go with England legend David Seaman ahead of the likes of Jens Lehmann and more recent incumbent Petr Cech.

At Nigel Winterburn, in ahead of Ashley Cole, while Nigel Winterburn takes the left back position. Centre back sees Martin Keown paired with Tony Adams.

Centre midfield has a distinctly French feel as Patrick Vieira is partnered with Emmanuel Petit with Marc Overmars and Robert Pires on the wings.

There are no surprises up front as the legendary duo of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp are reunited.

Five notable absentees:

Sol Campbell – Signed in a controversial move from rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Campbell was a key component in a side that won three FA Cup and two Premier League titles, as well as being one of the Invincibles.

Ashley Cole – he may have left for rivals Chelsea in a move that sees him disliked by Gunners fans to this day but there is no denying that Cole was one of the best left backs to grace the Premier League.

Gilberto Silva – Signed for a paltry £4.5 million, the Brazilian played a starring role in that famous unbeaten season.

Freddie Ljungberg – Another key part of that Invincible team, the Sweden star won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during his time with the Gunners.

Nicholas Anelka – One of Wenger’s bargain buys turned superstar, the Frenchman scored 28 goals in 98 games before joining Real Madrid for £22.3 million. He had cost just £500,000 from PSG.
