Ian Wright has suggested that someone might ‘cherry-pick’ Amadou Onana from Everton given the club’s current situation, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Premier League Productions (16/01/23 at 2:55 pm).
The Arsenal legend added that Onana has proved to be a ‘very capable’ player for Frank Lampard’s side this season, despite their major struggles.
Those on Merseyside, despite their financial issues, splashed out £33 million for the midfielder in the summer (BBC Sport), but the 21-year-old wouldn’t have expected to find himself in such a deep mess less than 12 months into his new club.

A highly-rated talent from Europe, a product of the thriving Anderlecht, Onana is one of a number of evolving midfielders that Belgium are producing.
From one of the Premier League’s best, Kevin de Bruyne, to the sought-after target, Youri Tielemans, as well as Arsenal’s future star, Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Whilst Tielemans could be one of the high-profile names to leave in the summer with his contract at Leicester City due to expire, Wright also stated that someone like Onana could already be leaving Goodison Park.
“Onana looks like a very good signing,” said Wright. “Somebody will probably cherry-pick him out of there with the way it’s going because he looks like a very capable player.
“But, in the main, with the way they are coached, at the minute. I am not seeing the patterns of how they are going to try, especially at Goodison, to put a team under a sufficient amount of pressure, which is going to make them crack, get the ball into Calvert-Lewin, get the ball into Gray, get the ball into the box where they can put teams under pressure. But I can’t see it.”

INCOMINGS NEEDED
Something has got to give at Everton. They are sitting in the Premier League’s relegation zone after losing to fellow strugglers Southampton on Saturday, with chants of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’ at the full-time whistle.
Either this incompetent board resigns, Lampard is sacked, or some much-needed experience is brought in during the January transfer window.
If you asked the supporters, they probably want the board sacked/resigned first of all, before other major changes are made.
