Ian Wright has told Match of the Day 2 that Tottenham trio Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski have all hit the ground running at Spurs. The trio starred again, as Spurs cruised past Newcastle to win 5-1.

Spurs needed to win to keep the pressure on Arsenal, who travel to Crystal Palace on Monday night. They did so with aplomb, despite going behind to Fabian Schar’s free-kick – a goal in which Hugo Lloris should have stopped.

Ben Davies equalised, before Son Heung-min, Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Steven Bergwijn all got themselves on the score sheet. Harry Kane was named man of the match, without even scoring a goal himself.

Arsenal legend Wright analysed Tottenham’s convincing win, which sees Spurs sit in fourth place for the time being – before Arsenal play. He was full of praise for Fabio Paratici’s signings, Romero, Kulusevski and Bentancur.

“Bentancur, Kulusevski, Romero – they have all hit the ground running. Add that to what the side already have, they’re a very dangerous side,” Wright told Match of the Day 2 on BBC One, as Spurs cruised to victory.

Paratici has had his critics. He brought in Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Royal too last summer. Gollini has managed 10 appearances, Gil is already out on loan after 20 below-par displays and Royal could even be sold.

But the additions of Romero, and then the duo from Juventus – Kulusevski and Bentancur – have transformed Tottenham from top-six challengers, into top-four challengers. They have a real, real chance to make fourth.
