Ian Wright has told ITV Sport that Arsenal and Liverpool duo, Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson, are building a ‘potent’ partnership for Scotland.

This came after Ally McCoist dubbed Tierney as, ‘out of this world,’ for his three assists and recent performances for Scotland during their 4-0 win against the Faroe Islands in the World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday night.

It’s unfortunate for Scotland that two of their best players accommodate the same position, but that hasn’t stopped Steve Clarke from fitting the Liverpool and Arsenal duo into his starting XI.

That was proven once again last night by Tierney channelling his inner Paolo Maldini and constantly feeding pin-point crosses to his more attacking teammates, when galloping forward from his centre-back role in Scotland’s back three.

McCoist was first to heap praise on the £25 million Arsenal man (Sky Sports), before Wright shared his thoughts on his partnership with Robertson.

“Tierney is out of this world in these three games,” said McCoist. “I know Wrighty has been watching him for Arsenal.

“His form has been fantastic the last three games – he is playing left centre-back, by the way, and it’s the willingness to get forward. The delivery here (for Scotland’s second goal), takes a touch. What a header.”

Wright added: “If you get quality like that in them forward areas and you get people in the box then you are probably going to score a goal. You have to let them people go. Get Dykes in. Adams upfront. Get Tierney getting the ball in there. Bombard them teams.

“They should be working on that for me (Tierney and Robertson partnership on the left-hand side) because that’s potent. That’s potent for them two. That’s potent for them.”

Tierney and Robertson were fighting each other’s cause during this past week, but that won’t be the case at the weekend.

Arsenal will host the stumbling Premier League champions, who just like their long-time rivals, are worrying about ending the campaign without any European football.

Many are pointing towards winning the Champions League and the Europa League for both clubs to guarantee that spot with the elite, but that’s a big ask, especially for two teams who have struggled for most parts this term.
