Tottenham Hotspur recorded a point away at Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Jermaine Jenas has honestly stated that he’d be ‘fuming’ if Harry Kane won a penalty against him as he was making reference to the Tottenham man’s penalty appeal against Arsenal on Sunday.

The North London encounter finished 2-2, and in the dying moments of the game, Kane appealed for a penalty when he was challenged by Arsenal defender Sokratis.

In the end, nothing was given by the on-field referee, as VAR also saw no reason to award England’s captain with a spot-kick late on in the game.

Speaking to Match of the Day 2 (01/09/2019 at 10:55 pm), Ian Wright believes that Kane wasn’t trying to stay on his feet against Arsenal, as Jenas also shared his thoughts.

“You don’t want to accuse someone of being a diver,” Wright told MOTD 2. “You can see Harry there, the ball is to the left of him and he’s almost going in towards Sokratis. Listen, I don’t call him a diver, but it doesn’t look like he is trying to stay on his feet there.

Jenas added: “In these situations here, I try to put myself in Sokratis positon. And I’d be fuming if he won that penalty there. Is he known for diving? I would say no – I think he’s waiting for the contact to come to him and thrown himself into Sokratis. It’s similar to Jamaal Lascelles and it’s not working. He needs to be careful.”

As Kane was running into the penalty area, he stepped in front of Sokratis, who did put his hands on his back, but the question has to be asked – was there enough contact to warrant him going down?

Either way, the Arsenal players weren’t impressed with Kane’s actions, who slotted home a penalty in the first-half when Granit Xhaka recklessly fouled Heung-Min Son in the penalty area.
