Ian Wright has told ITV Football’s International Highlights Show that Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson gets better every time he watches him. Leeds and Newcastle are among the clubs reportedly keen on him.

Johnson, 20, has been in stunning form for Forest this season – having a hand in 17 goals in his 40 league and cup appearances. It comes after returning to the City Ground, after a successful spell on at Lincoln City.

He has 12 goals to his name, and five assists. Such form has seen him break into Rob Page’s Wales squad, where he has won nine senior caps – getting an assist for Rubin Colwill to score against Czech Republic on Tuesday.

The Athletic recently reported that a fee of £20million was required to sell Johnson – with both Leeds and Newcastle said to be keeping an eye. Wright was full of praise after his Wales outing, having already watched him.

“When you’re seeing players like that coming through, it has got to be quite exciting. Brennan Johnson, every time you see him he looks better. 11 goals, five assists this season in the Championship. They are improving.”

Wright on Brennan: £20m still a bargain for Leeds and Newcastle

Brennan is a real talent. When Leeds sold Jack Clarke to Tottenham in 2018, they got £10million for his services – after two goals in 25 games. Yes, Johnson is a couple of years older, but is still incredibly young at 20.

Leeds or Newcastle would be paying double Spurs paid for Clarke, but they would be getting more than double the player. £20m for Johnson is a bargain in this day and age. One both clubs should try to take advantage of.
