According to Sky Sports, Newcastle manager Benitez is among the candidates for the Leicester managerial role.

The Foxes are on the hunt for a new manager due to the recent departure of Claude Puel.

Former Arsenal striker Wright hopes that Benitez does not leave Newcastle for Premier League rivals Leicester.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has suggested that he does not think that Benitez will leave the Magpies for the Foxes.

Wright said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (7:59pm, February 25, 2019): “I would hate to see Benitez leave Newcastle in the current climate when he has got an owner who just doesn’t help him.”

“For him to leave, going through everything what he has been through with Mike Ashley would be an absolute travesty for me,” added Wright.

Murphy said on the Jim White show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (11:09am, February 25, 2019): “I am not sure Rafa would go to Leicester.”

Development at Celtic

It now seems that Newcastle fans need not worry about losing Benitez anytime soon to Leicester.

According to a statement on Celtic’s official website, the Glasgow giants have given their manager Brendan Rodgers permission to speak to Leicester over the vacant managerial role at the King Power Stadium.

While Newcastle are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, Leicester’s recent results and performances have been worrying.
