Sunderland are yet to win a Premier League match under David Moyes’ stewardship.

Ian Wright has told The Sun Goals’ Podcast that he cannot understand why Sunderland boss David Moyes has been so negative.

Moyes admitted that Sunderland were likely to be in a relegation fight soon after taking over.

The former Manchester United manager has now stated that he believes Sunderland are lacking in quality, and they will have to make additions in January.

And Wright cannot understand why Moyes is taking such a defeatist stance, rather than looking at the positives.

“David Moyes has not been positive from the outset. He’s not come in and said ‘I know it’s been a nightmare, but we’re going to work hard and get out of this. We have a forward who can score goals, let’s be solid behind him’,” Wright said.

“Instead he’s gone in and talked up the fact that they’re going to be a relegation battle. Why would you say that?”

Moyes is still looking for his first Premier League win as Sunderland manager, after a defeat against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Palace came from two-goals down to beat the Black Cats, and Wright feels that unless Moyes’ side start to defend better then they will be playing Championship football next season.

“When you look back at that [the Benteke goal] and we roll it on into the future, they are going to go down,” Wright said.

Sunderland are next in action at the weekend, when they take on West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light.
