Tottenham Hotspur have not been able to cope with competing in both the Premier League and Champions League this season.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has explained how Spurs desperately need to strengthen their squad in January, when speaking on the Sun Goals Podcast, and quoted via the Sport Review.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men currently sit in fifth position in the Premier League table, four points behind fierce rivals Arsenal in fourth.
Their participation in the Champions League has led to tired legs, and seems to have had an adverse effect on their ability to play the high intensity pressing game that their fans have become so accustomed to seeing.

And speaking on the Sun Goals Podcast, Wright, who scored 185 goals for Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal during a seven-year spell with the club, highlighted how Pochettino will need to strengthen in January if his side are to mount any kind of challenge this term, as quoted by Sport Review:
“The worrying thing for Spurs is the squad. We’ve heard Mauricio Pochettino saying he wants players. He needs better players than the players he got apart from his starting XI. You look past the starting XI, there isn’t much there.”

Pochettino himself highlighted Tottenham’s lack of depth, following their exit from the Champions League, as something that needs to be addressed, as quoted by the Telegraph:
“To compete in the Champions League was tough. It is good for us to learn and try for the future. Maybe next season if we are in the Champions League, we need to make some changes.”
It will be interesting to see if the Argentine makes a move to bolster his options in January, in a bod to help Spurs force their way inside the top four.
