Tottenham Hotspur will have their work-cut out in keeping hold of some of their best players over the next few seasons.
Ian Wright
Arsenal legend Ian Wright delivered some transfer advice for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, suggesting that if the Argentine is to sell any of his stars for mega money, he should opt to dispose of Kyle Walker this summer, when speaking on the Sun Goals Podcast.
The 26-year-old England international’s future with Tottenham has been the subject of intense speculation over recent weeks, with reports suggesting that he has fallen out with Pochettino (Independent), and that Manchester City are planning a big money summer swoop for the Spurs right-back (Evening Standard).
The chances of Walker remaining in north London after this season appear to be diminishing with every week that passes, and with Tottenham’s impending move to their new 61,000 capacity stadium, the prospect of receiving a fee in excess of £40 million for a defender could prove to be too tempting to resist.
And Wright, who scored 185 goals for Tottenham’s fierce rivals Arsenal, explained why the Lilywhites should consider selling the 25-capped international, when speaking on the Sun Goals Podcast:
Tottenham’s Kyle Walker
“If you’re were going to sell one player and get £40-50m, Kyle Walker would be the one player that I would let go.”
With the incredibly expensive financial burden that lies ahead of Spurs, with their new stadium build, the sale of Walker could prove to be extremely beneficial in the long run.
Whether Kieran Trippier is good enough to fill the void that would be left behind by the 26-year-old, however, remains a topic that is up for debate.
