Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for Newcastle on their Premier League opener.
Ian Wright, speaking in a Facebook Q&A on BBC Radio 5 Live, has questioned Newcastle United fans for booing Dele Alli on Sunday.
Newcastle lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener at St James’s Park in a game which saw Jonjo Shelvey sent off for the Magpies shortly after the break.
The midfielder was given a straight red card for standing on Alli’s leg when the scoreline was 0-0, before Tottenham scored twice through the Spurs youngster and Ben Davies.

It was a moment of madness from Shelvey and we’ll never know whether Rafael Benitez’s side would have earned a result had he kept his cool, but it certainly did not help their cause.
And Wright has touched on the supporters’ decision to boo Alli over the incident.
He said on a Facebook Q&A on BBC Radio 5 Live: “I’ve missed the Newcastle fans because he’s stamped on Dele, who didn’t do anything, and they’re booing Dele.
“They booed him off and everything.”
In all likelyhood, Newcastle fans booed the Tottenham ace in the belief that he made the most of what happened.
They couldn’t have, and probably wouldn’t have, booed Shelvey, given he was off the field, but deep down the St James’s Park faithful will know that their player deserves more condemnation for the incident than Alli does.
