Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing West Ham and their incredible start to this season.
The Hammers have been brilliant in the Premier League so far this term. They’re fourth in the league and they’ve been simply sensational throughout the season.
David Moyes is, rightly, getting all sorts of plaudits, but Wright wanted to focus on West Ham’s coaching staff.
Indeed, the former Arsenal striker had special praise for Moyes’ backroom team, and he says that he’s noticed something rather interesting about the group.
What’s been said?
Wright was speaking about West Ham’s coaching staff, and he’s noticed an uncanny number of coaches who have themselves been managers.
“When you look at their backroom staff, it’s really interesting. They’ve all been managers. Stuart Pearce, McKinley, Alan Irvine, Irvine set up my first goal for Palace by the way, thanks for that Alan Irvine. Paul Nevin has managed New Zealand, everyone behind the scenes has managed, so you can imagine the wealth of experience and knowledge with those guys for people like Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice,” Wright said.

Interesting strategy
The fact that so many coaches at West Ham are former managers may be a coincidence, but if it’s not, this is a very interesting strategy.
Wright named four men in his podcast, but let’s not forget that Kevin Nolan is also a former manager in his own right and he did a perfectly fine job at Notts County.
These five men are all able to give their own informed views on the game and while every coach in the Premier League is educated to a level, being an actual manager is a different ball game.
Moyes has surrounded himself with men who know the task he faces, and it seems to be helping him a lot.
The old saying is that two heads are better than one, but Moyes has five former managers around him able to give him any advice he may need.
