Take a bow Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
There’s a reason as to why Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has labelled the Egypt international as ‘special’ in the past.
And it’s because of nights like this.
Despite only managing one Premier League start for the Gunners this season, Arteta started him in one of the North Londoners’ biggest games of the season.
Arsenal had to win away to Chelsea tonight to move level on points with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
And they did just that.
Arteta’s side are returning North of the capital with a brilliant 4-2 victory – and Elneny was one of his side’s best players.
With 90 percent passing success – better than any Arsenal player – and four interceptions, Elneny was Arsenal’s Ngolo Kante at Stamford Bridge.
And here’s what Ian Wright tweeted about him after the game:
When Arteta labelled him ‘special’ in 2020, it was straight after a 1-0 victory away to Manchester United.
When it comes to big games, the former Basel midfielder is strangely reliable and Wright’s tweet just about sums it up.
We say ‘strangely’ because, well, obviously the Spanish manager has his own reasons for barely using him in the Premier League this season.
But Elneny’s performance despite probably being unhappy much of 2022 speaks volumes about him as a footballer, but also as a man.
