Ian Wright has backed Harvey Elliott to explode in Liverpool colours after he raved about his potential.

The 20-year-old is amongst a plethora of top stars at Liverpool and it’s pretty hard for him to earn regular starts under Jurgen Klopp.

Despite that, he gets his fair share of minutes and is hoping to push the Reds to the Premier League title this season – the incredible 4-3 win over Fulham on Sunday should certainly help matters.

The Liverpool midfield was refreshed this summer, but Ian Wright thinks Harvey Elliott is a player who, ‘if he can get anywhere near his potential’, then he will become a ‘proper player’ for the team, as he told Premier League Productions (04/12/23 at 2:40 pm).

In truth, there isn’t a better teacher to learn from than someone like Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff because they have proven to take the level of players up to the highest of standards.

The issue for Harvey Elliott is his lack of goals, it was something he highlighted himself – he is yet to score this season.

And during his Liverpool career, the Fulham academy product has scored six in 84 Premier League matches.

But as Ian Wright touched upon, he is still a young lad and he is ‘really excited’ by what he is going to bring to the table in years to come.

Harvey Elliott’s potential at Liverpool

“I like him,” said Wright. “He is somebody that the potential he has. He obviously had that injury.

“But as a player, and the way he sees the game, his passing, his mobility, the capability and like he said he has to score more goals.

“He again is somebody that, if he can get anywhere near his potential, then Liverpool have a proper player on their hands.

“So, I am really excited for him.”

Harvey Elliott – A future England international

In the summer, Elliott was part of the England U21s side that won the European Championships.

Since then, the likes of Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer have been called up by Gareth Southgate for England.

Whilst Euro 2024 is unlikely for Elliott, you would imagine that the next World Cup, which is set to take place in the USA, Mexico and Canada, is a target for Elliott.

By then, he will be 23, but you would imagine that he will be hoping to be racking up the England caps by then.
