Arsenal have recently been linked to both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins, and inevitably, that’s led to a bit of a debate about which striker is better.
One if Everton’s first-choice number nine, the other was Aston Villa’s top scorer last season. They’re both England internationals and they’re both similar ages.
It’s tough to split the pair, but this isn’t a new debate that has only just emerged due to the links to Arsenal.
Indeed, the pair have also been fighting for a place in the England team over the last 12 months, and Gunners legend Ian Wright has already given his view on the Calvert-Lewin vs Watkins debate earlier this year.
What’s been said?
Wright gave his view on which striker he’d rather take to the Euros, and while he says he’s a big fan of both men, he chose Calvert-Lewin over Watkins.
“You’d probably take Dominic Calvert-Lewin simply because of his experience at under-21 level and the fact he’s had a very good season, just like Ollie Watkins,” he told Match of the Day on May 1st this year.
“It’s an unfair question because I wouldn’t mind taking them both,” Wright concluded.

Southgate made the same decision
Wright says that he’d prefer Calvert-Lewin to Watkins for England, and Gareth Southgate seemingly had the same point of view.
Indeed, the England manager chose to pick the Everton man over the Aston Villa ace ahead of the Euros this term.
It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal and Edu view things in the same way, but if reports are to be believed, we could see the Gunners move for either Calvert-Lewin or Watkins in the not so distant future.
