Pundit Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that he thinks Spurs fans will be happy with the decision to keep Heung-min Son over Nacer Chadli – and Ian Wright has also offered his praise for Son to The Sun Goals Podcast.

Tottenham continued their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season as they beat Middlesbrough 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, with winger Son stealing the headlines.

Son – signed from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 – scored two outstanding individual goals to hand Spurs a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes at the Riverside Stadium, and whilst Ben Gibson pulled one back for Middlesbrough, Spurs managed to hang on and claim all three points.

South Korean international Son is in the form of his life right now, becoming a key player for Mauricio Pochettino’s side just months after he was believed to be leaving White Hart Lane.

After a hit-and-miss first season at White Hart Lane, Son was linked with a summer move away from the club, and is now proving why Pochettino was right to keep him.

With four goals and two assists in three Premier League games, Son is really catching the eye – and two pundits have heaped praise on him for his performance against Middlesbrough over the weekend.

Firstly, Garth Crooks told BBC Sport that Son’s form speaks for itself right now, and suggested that Tottenham fans will now be happy that Nacer Chadli was sold instead of Son during the summer transfer window.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright then told The Sun Goals Podcast that he thinks Son has ‘it’ due to his technical ability combined with his pace, and thinks he showed fantastic quality against Middlesbrough – but, as a former Arsenal player, suggested that Tottenham’s comfortable win is a ‘worrying sign’ from a Gunners perspective.

“Four goals in two matches says all you need to know about Son and the way he is playing at the moment,” said Crooks. “His two goals against Stoke were pretty amazing and these two against Middlesbrough were just as good. Eyebrows were raised by some Spurs fans when Nacer Chadli was sold to West Brom and Son remained at the club. No-one is raising eyebrows anymore.”

“What happened was, last season he was probably finding his feet,” added Wright. “When you look at him, technically and pace-wise, he’s got it. So you think that when he gets some confidence – and he’s not shy anywhere near the goal, even when he wasn’t playing so well, he wants to shoot, he wants to get in the box – he could maybe turn into the player we’re seeing now. Fantastic quality, and Spurs – slowly and efficiently – are just getting on with it, just beating teams like that comfortably; and that’s a worrying sign,” he continued.
