Tottenham Hotspur are in need of a striker & Ian Wright has responded to West Ham’s Andy Carroll or Liverpool’s Divock Origi potentially filling that void.
Ian Wright has shut down the thought that Tottenham should sign Andy Carroll but has admitted that signing Divock Origi from Liverpool wouldn’t be a bad idea for the injury-stricken club.
Star striker Harry Kane injured his ligaments during the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United one week ago and will subsequently be out of action until early March, as confirmed by the club in their brief statement.
Added with that, attacking midfielder Dele Alli limped off with what appeared to be a muscle injury during his side’s 2-1 win at Fulham over the weekend.
Alli’s injury has worsened the situation for Mauricio Pochettino in the attacking third because Heung-min Son is on international duty with South Korea.
Former Arsenal man Wright was given a list of players that Spurs could potentially sign this month and he offered a brilliant response to some of the names mentioned.
“Come on man [on Andy Carroll signing],” Wright told 606 on BBC Radio Five Live. “I saw Andy Carroll come off the other day with the raving hump. It’s one of those situations with the way Tottenham play. Can you honestly see Carroll playing at Spurs?
“They need something. Divock Origi is not a bad one. Is Klopp going to let him go?”
West Ham United striker Carroll only returned to action in December after injuring his ankle and has only started two Premier League matches for Manuel Pellegrini.
The 30-year-old has only scored one goal this season and that came against Championship side Birmingham City in the FA Cup earlier this month.
On the other hand, Liverpool’s Origi has played a bit part role for Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing side, playing only 72 minutes of league football during this campaign.
The Belgium international has played a total of five matches in all competitions, scoring two goals for his side, including a last-minute winner against bitter rivals Everton at the start of December.
