Ian Wright comments on Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli

Ian Wright suggests Dele Alli has his eye on a big move away from Tottenham Hotspur if he hires Jorge Mendes.

Ian Wright has suggested on BBC Radio 5 Live that Dele Alli will be looking for a blockbuster move away from Tottenham Hotspur if he hires one of football’s super agents.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder split with his former representative Rob Segal back in August and is yet to hire a successor.

The Daily Mail, however, reported last month that the Spurs star was speaking with Jorge Mendes, who manages Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Alli, whose £50k-a-week Tottenham contract doesn’t expire until 2022, has been in terrible form lately and Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Manchester City offered another glaring example of how his standard has slipped dramatically in recent months.

And Arsenal legend Wright claims it is “very, very important” that Alli starts focusing on football again and ignores the off-the-field situation regarding his management.

“It is a very, very important time for Dele,” Wright said on BBC 5 live. “He has got to be focusing on football even when he is not playing football to get himself back to the level he was at.

“The other day he was like a shadow of what we know he can do. When you start getting agents like Jorge Mendes you are not getting those agent to renegotiate contacts.

“You are getting those agents to move you somewhere, move you big, so he has got to be playing at a consistent level [to show] why he would go get an agent like that.”

On the plus side, if Tottenham do wind up losing Alli after joining forces with a Mendes or a Mino Raiola then the Lilywhites can expect at least a British-record transfer fee.

He has a lot of work to do if he wants to command a fee in excess of £200 million, as Neymar did this past summer when he joined Paris Saint-Germain, but the talent is certainly there.
