Ian Wright says a “bundle of money” will be available to Everton’s next manager.
Ian Wright has told 606, which was broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live on 27th November, that Everton is still a very attractive proposition for managerial candidates, saying that Ronald Koeman’s successor might have a “bundle of money” at his disposal in January.
Everton’s horrendous slump continued on Sunday when the Toffees, under caretaker David Unsworth, suffered a demoralising 4-1 defeat away to Southampton.
Three days prior to that, the Goodison Park club were demolished 5-1 by Atalanta in the Europa League.
Consequence of their poor form, Everton are only two points above the relegation zone and Ronald Koeman’s successor is bound to have a big job on his hands.
Nevertheless, Wright is confident that many managers would still jump at the chance to manage the Merseyside club, who have a deluge of talent after spending £150 million on transfers during the summer.
“I do still think the manager’s job there is an attractive one,” Wright told BBC Radio Five Live on Monday night.
“Farhad Moshiri, the major shareholder, has an absolute bundle of money, while they have too much talent to be down in that position for too long.
“It just needs someone who knows what he’s doing to shake it up.”
Sam Allardyce, according to The Guardian, is in talks with the Everton board over replacing Koeman, having previously ruled himself out of the race.
