Ian Wright told Match of the Day that he is ‘so happy’ for Tottenham youngster Alfie Devine after he scored in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The 16-year-old came off the bench to score Tottenham’s fifth goal in their 5-0 win against non-league side Marine.

It was a day to remember for the teenager, who perhaps summed up what the FA Cup is all about.

Nonetheless, this is what Wright had to say about the Spurs youngster after he scored.

“I love his celebration,” said Wright. “Once he hits that net, look at him realise [that he has scored]. So good to see.

“I can’t even remember being 16. Great goal. I was four years retired [when he was born]. I am so happy for him and good luck to him.”

On the other side of the scale is summer signing Matt Doherty, who recently returned to Tottenham’s starting XI.

Whilst he has been battling with Serge Aurier for that number one spot, Wright backed the attack-minded full-back to become a ‘force’ for his side.

On Matt Doherty: “Once he gets going in this Tottenham side, he is going to be a bit of a force for them.”

Doherty walked straight into Tottenham’s starting XI when he first joined the club, but then weeks down the line he was playing back-up to Aurier in the Premier League.

But with Aurier, his problems of giving away needless penalties came back to bite him again and since then Doherty has been the main guy.
