Ian Wright has claimed that Tottenham transfer target, Christian Eriksen, is ‘easily the signing of the season’, as he told the Premier League Review on PLP (24/05/22 at 4:30 pm).
The former striker thinks if Eriksen doesn’t stay at Brentford beyond this summer, then he will be a ‘bargain’ signing for anyone.
Following his collapse at Euro 2020, Eriksen returned to football in the colours of Brentford in January by signing a short-term deal.
The Denmark international helped elevate Thomas Frank’s side that were struggling at the time and secure their Premier League safety, but now the likes of Tottenham are fishing for his signature.
One a free transfer, Wright thinks Eriksen could be a top capture, as he lauded the player who has ‘everything’ to his game.
“There was a time, before Christian Eriksen got there, you felt they might get sucked in,” said Wright. “Since he has been there and you have watched Brentford, they have been able to push 15 yards up the pitch.
“What he has done is raise the standards of everybody. It is easily the best signing of the season, for me. What’s great about Eriksen is that he is a proper number ten. There is a lot of scope for that kind of player.
“What he has shown, which could be to Brentford’s determent if he doesn’t stay, is that he has a lot to offer still. He can pick up the ball in space for any team.
“His first touch is magnificent. Very offensive. Set-pieces like we saw. Through balls and crosses. Everything that you need. For free, he is somebody that will be a bargain for anybody.”

WILL ERIKSEN SIGN NEW BRENTFORD CONTRACT?
Eriksen’s impact on Brentford has been transformative, so their fans will be asking about his future.
If Eriksen signs a new Brentford contract, then Thomas Frank can worry less and it probably decreases their chances of getting relegated next season.
That second season is always a worry for newly-promoted sides and the Bees will be no different.
But Spurs, with Champions League football, might just be the favourites to land the Dane’s signature.
Everything points towards it, the north London club needing a player of his calibre, his past relationship with the club and his past relationship with Antonio Conte.
