Ian Wright told ITV Sport on Sunday that Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin should be ‘disappointed’ in Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson because that’s how he would be feeling.
The Everton and Liverpool duo were in action for England yesterday and were involved in some penalty drama.
After DCL, 24, had won a spot-kick for the Three Lions, Henderson opted to take the ball off the Everton man and take the penalty himself.
England were winning 1-0, at the time – and they went on to beat Romania by that scoreline – as Henderson’s penalty was saved.
And after the game, Wright shared his thoughts on the matter.
“The thing is, it’s the person that bumping you off, isn’t it, it’s Jordan Henderson,” said Wright.
“As much as we look at someone who has never scored for England. Missed in the shootout against Colombia. He fancied it. He wanted to take it. It’s the type of game if you’re going to take it then this is the type of game to take it to build your confidence.
“But I would be disappointed if I was Calvert-Lewin because you can see that he wanted it. I would be very disappointed if I was a striker.”

It’s fair to say that Henderson won’t be taking any penalties for England when Euro 2020 officially kicks off, unless there is penalty shootout drama for the Three Lions.
The last time England were involved in that they beat Colombia at the World Cup in Russia, with Eric Dier scoring the decisive spot-kick and Henderson missing his own penalty.
But with Harry Kane set to lead the line for Gareth Southgate, he is set to be the main penalty taker, with Marcus Rashford, who netted the only goal of the game from the spot yesterday, seemingly second in line.
