Ian Wright has said on Premier League Productions that Everton should have targeted Arsenal left-back Granit Xhaka more last night.

Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat to Everton at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Friday evening.

An own goal from goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the 76th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Xhaka is a midfielder by trade, but the 28-year-old has been playing at left-back in the absence of the injured Kieran Tierney.

The Switzerland international was deployed at left-back against Everton, and the goal that Arsenal conceded came from his side, with Richarlison, who started the game on the right of an attacking midfield three, involved.

Arsenal legend Wright believes that the Toffees should have targeted the 28-year-old earlier.

Wright said on Premier League Productions: “I think Everton took very long to really take advantage of the fact that our left side was Xhaka and how easily Richarlison went past him, something that they didn’t take advantage right from the off.”

Top-four chance over?

The defeat to Everton has pretty much ended Arsenal’s hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four.

The Gunners are on 46 points now, while fourth-placed Chelsea have 55 points, and the Blues have played a fewer game.

It seems that the only way that Arsenal could play in the Champions League next season is if they win the Europa League.
