It has been a season to forget for Everton, with everything and anything going wrong on and off the field of play.
Out on the pitch, the football has been beyond diabolical, with Sean Dyche’s side scrapping to a 1-0 win over 10-man Burnley on Saturday.
Just when Everton secured themselves a much-needed three points and lifted the home crowd’s morale, they have been hit with another sucker punch.
On Monday, news broke that Everton have been deducted two points for a second breach of Premier League financial rules, the club issued in a statement on their website that they will appeal.
They drop one place in the Premier League table and are now sitting 16th in the table – two points off the relegation zone.
Ian Wright reacted to that news and told the club to ‘get on with it’ and forget appealing because they have been ‘found guilty of breaching’, as he told Premier League Productions (08/04/24 at 2:50 pm).
The former striker also called out owner Farhad Moshiri and how ‘no-one is saying anything about him’ – Wayne Rooney previously admitted that he was baffled by three ‘strange’ signings made by the club under his stewardship.
Whilst managers have changed, people in the boardroom and players out on that pitch.
The one constant has been Moshiri himself, with Wright sympathising with the Everton fans because he feels they have suffered enough.
Everton docked two points
“At the moment, they are going to need all the help they are going to get,” said Wright. “I don’t know if them appealing is going to do much more. I don’t know what that is going to do. Maybe they should get on with it. They should just try to get this season done and go again next season.
On reason for the appeal is to get their points deduction reduced and they could stay up by the single point: “Yeah, but if they have been found guilty of breaching. I don’t think there should be an appeal simply because you have breached, you have got it wrong, someone has come up with what they want to give you, in respects of punishment.
“The mis-management of that football club somewhere along the line, it shouldn’t only be the fans that are punished here. Something has to happen, in respect of, giving these owners the helm in the first place. It’s so sad for the fans.
“Can you imagine how an Everton fan feels this morning? Especially having to watch what they watched against Burnley on Saturday. It’s not looking good. Something more has to be done. Look at Moshiri, no-one is saying anything about him!”

Everton still out of the Premier League’s relegation zone
It’s understandable if the Everton fans are negative, frustrated and just annoyed at what is happening.
But, at the end of the day, they just stopped a club-record winless run, they have struggled to score goals and have been deducted points on two separate occasions.
Yet, despite all of that, the team is still out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
The quicker this season ends for the Toffees, the better it is for the long-term future of their club and trying to move forward again.
And they are probably lucky that, in a season when they have been deducted so many points, the likes of Burnley and Sheffield United have been so bad.
