Ian Wright believes Arsenal ace tipped for the Player Of The Year award is ‘a bit off-form’

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has commented on a current Arsenal player who has struggled so far this season.

Arsenal have picked up seven points from a possible nine following the frustrating 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion after Joao Pedro cancelled out Kai Havertz’s opener.

Fans of the Gunners were furious after Declan Rice was sent off for kicking the ball following a foul on Joel Veltman and Chris Kavanagh dismissed the former West Ham United midfielder.

However, away from the controversy around Rice’s sending-off, the performance of one Arsenal star has become a cause for concern and Ian Wright has had his say.

Ian Wright comments on Martin Odegaard performances

Last season, Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard had an outstanding campaign but it wasn’t enough for the Gunners as they were once again pipped to the Premier League title by Manchester City.

However, the beginning of this season has been a struggle for Odegaard and the Norwegian struggled, in particular, against Brighton and Wright has had his say on the midfielder’s performances.

“I thought Odegaard was a little bit off-form, just a little bit not quite himself,” said the Highbury icon Wright when speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

Co-host Ryan Hunn suggested the Arsenal captain may have suffered a knock, something Wright agreed with.

“Even in the first half when the ball came across for him to volley in, he didn’t take it very well,” added Wright.

Football.london meanwhile gave the Norway international a 6 out of 10 for his efforts against the Seagulls but it has not been the start to the season that the former Real Madrid ace would have wanted.

Martin Odegaard will be key for Arsenal this season

Despite the poor start to the season that Odegaard has had, if the Gunners are going to finally win the Premier League title, they will need the Norwegian to shine for the North London club.

Ally McCoist believed that Odegaard was set to win the Premier League Player Of The Year award at the beginning of the campaign and there will be hope that he can do exactly that.

Following the resumption of the campaign after the international break, Arsenal will take on Tottenham Hotspur and the Gunners must get a victory at the home of their biggest rivals.
