Ian Wright believes that one current Manchester City player made the correct move to the club despite his struggles under Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City have become a well-oiled machine under Pep Guardiola with the Citizens winning their fourth Premier League title in a row.
City have become a juggernaut and seem to have an extraordinary success rate when it comes to transfer signings that the club have made since Guardiola’s arrival in Manchester.
One signing that has not worked out in the slightest is Kalvin Phillips who, since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Leeds United, has had a terrible time of things in the North of England.

Wright on Phillips
Despite the struggles of Phillips, which has culminated in the English midfielder missing out on Gareth Southgate’s EURO 2024 squad, former Arsenal forward Ian Wright believes he was right to join City.
“Sometimes you make the move, and it feels like the great move at the time, and people don’t understand,” Wright told the Chris Moyles Show.
“Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. That didn’t work out for whatever reason, but he’s a great player and he will be back.”
When asked if Phillips was right to join City, Wright said: “Absolutely. You’re talking about going to Guardiola’s Manchester City, who are arguably the best team in the world.
“And he’s going there. Unfortunately, like you said, it didn’t work out for him. But that happens. He’s just got to go again.”
Phillips’ struggle
City decided to loan the midfielder out to David Moyes’ West Ham United during the January transfer window but that move to East London failed spectacularly.
HITC have previously reported that alongside Scottish sides Celtic and Rangers, Europa League winners Atalanta are interested in the midfielder, who moved to City for £45 million.
A move away from the Etihad Stadium on a permanent deal looks to be the right way forward for the Englishman to try and rekindle a career that blossomed so much during his time in Yorkshire.
