Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur’s weekend clash with Liverpool. Spurs go into the game on a high after their brilliant win against Manchester United in midweek. Spurs took United apart at Wembley in one of their best performances of the season.

Tottenham are now pushing for the top four and if they beat Liverpool they will move into the Champions League places this weekend.

In the past two seasons Tottenham have been battling for the Premier League title, first with Leicester City and Arsenal and then with Chelsea last term. This year has been a little bit of a struggle in comparison and now the top four is their main priority.

In both seasons Tottenham suffered shock defeats that ultimately cost them, which has seen them labelled as bottlers in some people’s mind.

Ian Wright, a former record goalscorer at rivals Arsenal, believes this is now the time for Spurs to prove that they are made of something else. He wrote in the Sun:

“Tottenham are entering a tough run of games now and the period when some are fond of saying they “bottle it”.

“I think they put in a performance against Manchester United last time out, however, that showed they are ready to answer a lot of critics.

“They bamboozled United form the start and thoroughly deserved their 2-0 win at Wembley. Liverpool at Anfield will represent a tougher challenge.”

That said, he was not willing to back Spurs to beat Liverpool this weekend. He predicts a 3-2 win for the Reds in an exciting Premier League clash. Such a result would be crushing for Spurs, who defeated Liverpool 4-1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Tottenham need to show they are cut out for the top four battle this season and a win v Liverpool this weekend would be the perfect way to start.

Bottling it is not an option.
