The BBC pundit thinks Liverpool can go all the way this season.
Ian Wright suggested that Liverpool can pip Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, when speaking during a guest appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live (20:16, Monday, August 12th).
The Reds were so close to winning the title last season, missing out by just a single point to Manchester City, having finished the campaign with an incredible 97 points.
Jurgen Klopp didn’t bring any marquee signings into Anfield during the summer transfer window, but he still has an incredibly strong squad at his disposal.
And Wright suggested that there is no reason why Liverpool can’t match their points haul from last season, when speaking during a guest appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live (20:16, Monday, August 12th):
“Yeah I do (will they get 97 points), why not? The thing is they’ve done it before, can City do 98 again? Do 100 points again? You’d say yes, and are Liverpool going to chase them down due to the experienced they’ve gained? Yes. So if Manchester City get 100 points then I think Liverpool are capable of getting 99 points, and vice versa. I think Man City are the team to beat, but I’ve gone for Liverpool again.”
Liverpool began their campaign in fine fashion on Friday, beating Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield.
And they can’t afford to let up, with Manchester City already at their imperious best.
The Reds face Chelsea in the Super Cup tomorrow night, before clashes with Southampton, Arsenal and Burnley takes Klopp’s side up to the first international break of the season..
And Liverpool absolutely must win all of those games, if they want to make a real statement and send a message to Pep Guardiol’a men.
