West Ham striker Hernandez starred for Mexico as they produced the shock of the World Cup so far, by beating Germany.
ITV World Cup pundit and Arsenal legend Ian Wright has applauded West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez for his passion during Mexico’s 1-0 win over Germany on Sunday.
Hernandez, 30, starred during Mexico’s shock 1-0 win over the Germans on Sunday, who earned all three points thanks to Hirving Lozano’s first-half goal that saw him crash home a low shot past Manuel Neuer.
Before the match even started, Hernandez was seen crying with tears of pride during Mexico’s national anthem, as won his 102nd cap for Mexico – almost a decade since his debut in January 2009.
Wright applauded Hernandez for his passion on Instagram, posting a video of the former Manchester United striker’s clearly emotional state and captioning: “The passion and love [heart emoji] from Hernandez”.
Hernandez endured an indifferent season at West Ham after joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, scoring only eight goals despite making 33 league and cup appearances for the Hammers.
Indeed, Hernandez suffered a number of injuries and was overlooked on a number of occasions by David Moyes, who opted to pick Marko Arnautovic ahead of the pocket-sized forward much of the time.
It remains to be seen if Hernandez has a long-term future at the London Stadium following the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini, with two years remaining on his contract.
