Kenedy has impressed since joining Newcastle on loan from Chelsea.
Ian Wright has applauded Chelsea youngster Kenedy on BBC Radio 5 Live for the Brazilian’s decision to join Newcastle United on loan in the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old has been an instrumental figure in Newcastle’s fight against relegation, with Rafa Benitez guiding the Toon to a safe position well above a potential relegation dog fight after two wins in two.
Chelsea loanee Kenedy was sensational in the 3-0 win over Southampton, netting twice as he got his name on a Premier league scoresheet for the first time before providing the assist for Ayoze Perez’s late strike last time out.
It saw the Toon win 1-0 over Huddersfield and Premier League legend Wright believes Kenedy has made the right decision to join the Magpies on loan as he is thriving in front of the huge St. James’ Park crowds.
“For me, Newcastle is the kind of place that if you’re a young player at a club like a Chelsea or a Manchester City, I would do anything to get to somewhere like Newcastle,” Wright said.
“You’re playing in front of massive crowds and you’ve got the opportunity to play in the Premier League and get that kind of support and Kenedy has done it – and he’s thriving on it.”
Kenedy had been rotting in the reserves at Chelsea under Antonio Conte, rarely given a chance to shine in the first team. He made just five appearances for the Premier League champions during the first half of the season, all coming in the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup.
However, he is on fire with Newcastle and it remains to be seen if the Toon will try to land the former Fluminense ace on a permanent deal, with two years still to run on his Stamford Bridge contract.
With seven games to play, Newcastle sit seven points above the drop zone in 12th place. Kenedy and the Toon will next be in action on Saturday against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
