Elijah Dixon-Bonner was released by Liverpool in the summer after failing to make a first-team breakthrough and has now finally found a new club in the form of Queens Park Rangers – prompting Ian Wright and Harvey Elliott to react.

The 21-year-old was a regular for the Under-21 side – clocking up 55 appearances for Liverpool’s second string. He also managed to play three times for the Liverpool first team – but it was not enough to earn a new deal at Anfield.

The England Under-17 international has been a free agent since his contract expired on June 30. Now, he has found himself a new club. The Liverpool connection continues, joining QPR – who are managed by Michael Beale.

Of course, Beale worked with Dixon-Bonner at Liverpool before his move to Sao Paulo. Obviously, Beale has since worked for Steven Gerrard at Rangers and Aston Villa, before taking on his first job as a manager with QPR.

He has decided to bring in Dixon-Bonner. It might take a while before the attacking midfielder gets up to speed. It is believed he is overcoming a hamstring issue. But he took to Instagram to underline his delight at joining QPR.

Wright and Elliott react: Dixon-Bonner finds club after Liverpool release

It is a brilliant move for Dixon-Bonner. A player that never left Liverpool on loan. But a player that has enormous potential. He has the chance to really shine in a team, at a decent level, under a manager that really knows him well.

If he can get fit, and start to prove why he was given three first-team outings by Liverpool, then he could be a wonderful signing for QPR. At Championship level, he will have to get up to speed quickly, though.

It is unclear how long a contract he has been given but it is unlikely to be a long-term one. Reacting to his post on Instagram, Ian Wright shared his delight for Dixon-Bonner. As did a handful of Liverpool players including Elliott.
