Ian Taylor stated on Twitter that Aston Villa were ‘magnificent’ during the first 30 minutes of their 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

The former Villa midfielder also posted a picture of himself with ex-teammates, George Boateng, Juan Pablo Angel and current England manager Gareth Southgate.

Dean Smith’s side, who are chasing promotion to the Premier League, opened the scoring through Tammy Abraham after a brilliant move involving Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Anwar El Ghazi. Centre-back Tyrone Mings doubles his side’s lead in the second half before the visitors pulled a goal back to test the nerves of the home team.

After the match, Taylor posted these messages on his personal Twitter account as he expressed his delight at Villa recording another three points.

Three Lions boss Southgate was in the stands, seemingly, to watch Grealish in action, who has been tipped by supporters and pundits alike for a national call-up.

As for Angel, he was paraded around the pitch, alongside Martin Laursen at half-time to the delight of the home supporters, who gave the duo a very warm reception.

Nonetheless, the former Villa players would have been delighted with what they saw because Smith’s players recorded all three points and are still on course to finish in the top-six.

At this moment in time, they are sitting fifth in the table, two points ahead of seventh-placed Bristol City who have two games in hand, starting with a clash against Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
