Ian Taylor has praised the returning Jack Grealish on Twitter after he helped Aston Villa record an emphatic 4-0 win against Derby County on Saturday afternoon.

Dean Smith’s side produced their best performance of the season, with Grealish scoring a thunderous volley on the stroke of half-time to sum up a breathtaking opening 45 minutes from the home team.

Villa pressed with great energy, passed with great speed and constantly threatened Frank Lampard’s side, who failed to produce a shot on goal and didn’t get out of their opponents half until after 15 minutes.

Nonetheless, Holte End favourite Taylor posted this message on his personal Twitter account as he singled out Villa’s star man for his performance.

Conor Hourihane opened the scoring when Grealish’s ball over the top found the on-rushing Tammy Abraham, whose initial shot was saved before Hourihane calmly slotted home from the rebound.

Villa continued to dominate as the first half drew to a close, but eight minutes before the interval, Villa turned on the heat once again when a fast break led to Ahmed Elmohamady supplying a perfectly weighted cross for Abraham to score after 37 minutes.

Seven minutes later, Hourihane doubled his side’s advantage before Glenn Whelan’s direct corner to Grealish, who was standing on the edge of the penalty area, was volleyed in to the delight of the home supporters.

Smith’s side continued to dominate after the break with Tyrone Mings and Anwar El Ghazi coming close on a number of occasions as Villa now prepare for the second city derby next Sunday.
