Aston Villa demolished Bristol City 5-0 in the Championship clash on Monday.

Aston Villa moved to fifth in the Championship table after beating Bristol City 5-0 at Villa Park on Monday.

Steve Bruce, Villa manager, bemoaned before the match that missing nine first team players through injuries, but he will be delighted with two back to back victories.

It was crucial for Villa to keep pace with other promotion contenders in the busy festive period, and they did respond brilliantly.

After a torrid month of December, where they failed to win a single game, Villa have found their rhythm back with two successive wins.

Scott Hogan opened the scoring for the home side in the 23rd minute. Robert Snodgrass, on loan from West Ham, added another before the half-time.

Villa changed gears after the break, and scored three more goals, as Snodgrass, Birkir Bjarnason, and Conor Hourihane’s deflected shot completed the rout.

Villa had 50% of possession during the game, and had registered six shots on target, according to BBC Sport.
